Dog of the Week: Charlotte

Type of dog: Canadian Inuit

Age: 5, born in March of 2008

Birthplace: Wintergreen Dogsled Lodge; Ely, MN

Parents: Thule and Jens

Favorite position: Lead

Some of you may remember me . . . I spent this past fall visiting schools with Dave and Amy. That was fun. I met so many nice kids! I have to admit that I was happy to return to Wintergreen. I have so many relatives and friends here. I like to be with all these other dogs! I also like to pull a dogsled! We have plenty of snow and the trails are in great shape. Pulling a dogsled is really my favorite thing to do, aside from eating and being pet by nice people.

I run in the lead position most of the time. I have to listen to what the people on the dogsled say. They are called mushers. They tell me what to do. If they say “hike”, I know that it is time to go. When they say “whoa”, I need to stop. If they tell me “gee”, I turn to the right. If they say “haw”, I turn to the left. There are more commands, but those are the basics.

  1. Charlotte was one of my dogs during my visit to Wintergreen. She was so patient putting up with Bullet and Kayuk’s male posturing. She certainly knows how to pull.
